Karen Gillan is a Scottish actress and filmmaker who was born on November 28, 1987. Gillan rose to prominence in British film and television, particularly for her role as Amy Pond, the Eleventh Doctor's major companion in the science fiction series Doctor Who (2010–2013), for which she garnered numerous awards and nominations. Ally in the thriller film Outcast (2010) and Jane Lockhart in the romantic comedy film Not Another Happy Ending were two of her early cinematic appearances (2013). She made her Hollywood debut as Kaylie Russell in the horror-thriller Oculus (2013), which was her first commercial breakthrough in the US, and then went on to feature in the sitcom Selfie (2014).
